A much needed refresh for our followers

Category: news about developandroid blogwpgeorge @ 9:59 pm

After several months of being published, we noticed that this guide was getting kind of outdated.

There were two important developments in recent months:

  • Oracle stopped offering public updates to its Java 6 SDK  in favor of Java 7 SDK.
  • Google released an additional way to get started developing by bundling Eclipse with all its development tools (known as the ADT Bundle)

So it became necessary to make our tutorials current.

First, all our tutorials refer to Java SDK 7 only. We also chose to continue using the original Android SDK Starter package instead of the ADT Bundle.  This is still supported  by Google and in our view, it creates a clearer division of open source providers (Eclipse for the IDE and Google ADT as a separate plugin).

We also created a Start Here page to make it easier to find your way to our offerings.

Please let us know in any post if you have any wishlist for future tutorials, setup instructions for specific devices, etc.
